A 70 year old woman was recently apprehended for the murder of her younger brother, a crime stemming from a land inheritance dispute that had remained unresolved for over a decade. The arrest was made by the police in Rayong province, following a directive from Police Major General Thirachart Thirachartthamrong.
The incident dates back to 2012, when the woman, identified as Tawai, allegedly used a knife to fatally wound her brother, referred to as A, in their home in Wang Sai, Khlong Khlung district, Kamphaeng Phet province. The conflict arose over a disagreement concerning their inheritance.
Before this tragic event, the siblings frequently argued over the matter. After the incident, Tawai managed to flee the scene and evaded capture for more than 10 years.
Police discovered Tawai had been hiding in Rayong province and subsequently captured her. During questioning, Tawai admitted to killing her brother, acknowledging the inheritance dispute but asserting that her actions were in self-defence.

She recounted that on the day of the incident, while she and her husband were dining on the second floor of their home, her brother, reportedly intoxicated, approached them with a knife at his waist. Feeling threatened, she and her husband sought refuge in a room.
Tawai further explained that her brother forced his way into the room and began to strangle her. In a desperate act of self-defence, she seized the knife from his waist and struck him in the neck, resulting in his death.
Tawai expressed remorse over the incident, lamenting the tragic turn of events within her family. Following her confession, she was taken to the Kamphaeng Phet provincial court to face legal proceedings, reported KhaoSod.
In similar news, a Thai man attacked his mother during a heated argument over inheritance, accusing her of misusing the family’s assets with her new husband after the death of his father.
The mother later posted videos on social media showing her son physically assaulting her outside their home in Surat Thani province.
